Sunni Politician Named Sistan-Baluchestan Governor
TEHRAN -- Two Sunni politicians have been appointed as the
deputy president and the provincial governor in the country, Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said Wednesday.
Abdolkarim Husseinzadeh, a 44-year-old Sunni politician, was appointed as deputy president for the affairs of the rural development and the disadvantaged areas, Mohajerani said.
Mansour Bijar, a Sunni Baluch politician, was approved by the cabinet as the governor of the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, she added.
President Masoud Pezeshkian’s initial appointment of Husseinzadeh as his deputy for rural areas about two months ago faced hurdles as lawmakers rejected his resignation from his constituency as a member of parliament.
The lawmakers finally approved the resignation on Wednesday with 156 votes in favor, 69 votes against and five abstaining.
